My corner of the world

So the almost sweater is looking almost like a sweater again, and the Lion is happy this time that it might actually fit him.

I also came up with a screenplay idea that I need to work up into a treatment. A very dark comedy, which sort of fits my mood. I need a corner of the world like this blog to be expressive.  I have not had time to knit lately and just took it up again this weekend. It really helps unblock the creative flow.

Also a funny note: Slim says things are "superiorily" awesome nowadays. Too funny.

Noro in the Wild

The benefit of not blogging for awhile is I can randomly showcase things I made ages ago.

I can't remember if I made this scarf with Noro Furisode or Taiyo. I know it is a cotton and wool mix, with maybe a little silk thrown in.

The pattern is the free Multi-Directional Scarf. I highly recommend it and have now made two of them with Noro yarn.

I have been wearing this scarf constantly this winter. I think the bright colors are cheering me up. January and February usually are my low points, but bright yarn always helps.

Having a ball

My lovely sister, who still doesn't blog her knitting, got me a very special Christmas gift.

The Yarn Harlot linked to this Etsy shop right before the holidays and before you know it, the artist sold out of this little yarn ball mug. With good reason, because it is adorable and makes me feel like my knitting is close at hand even when it isn't.

Luckily, my super smart sister snagged the last one. And I love it.

Delayed, but maybe that's okay

That yarn down there in the pIcture both is and is not a sweater. A sweater interrupted, you might say.

The Little Lion asked for a red sweater at the start of January. He had found one that I made him when he was a baby, and tried to get it on. Since I didn't want it broken, I told him I would make another. Could it be purple? (Yarn I had in the stash?) No. Red.

So I purchased. I found a pattern. I cast on and measured my gauge, and it was on. I was flying. In two weeks I had most of the body done and was starting the hood. Only problem?

It was fitting me in length. Knitting can be a stretchy beast. Also that 4 stitches to the inch start turned into 3.5. (??)

So I 'fessed up to the kid. Told him that mommy messed up and it wasn't going to fit unless I unknit the whole thing and started again on Size 9 needles.

That's okay, he said.

Sometimes it is best to begin again and get it right. I am also doing that with my after-school job search. But maybe this time I will get it right.

New phone. New me.

Not really, but I am impressed. It is a Samsung Galaxy S III.

Hopefully more time to write tomorrow. There is a yarn update, and a need to just blow off some steam.

Starting them young.

I honestly could not be more excited about the boys taking an interest in yarn.

The Little Lion is not so little anymore ... 5, almost 6 ... and he decided today that I needed to teach him how to knit. I asked him what he wanted to make, and he said, "A sweater, hats, socks, a blanket, and maybe a shirt." I said, "well what do you want to start with?"

"Socks," he said.

Ambitious, that one. Wonder where he gets it from?

So I suggested we make Pikachu a blanket. Two rows in and he still loves it, but had to bounce off the couch to play with his brother.

Can't wait to create more with him...

I've lost my hat. Drat.

So over fall finals, I did some wonderful procrastinating by making a watch cap in a brioche stitch. The pattern is called Charity Watch Cap, but shouldn't true charity start at home? Besides, my ears were cold.

It worked great on vacation at the AMC Joe Dodge Lodge in NH, but now I can't find it. I have a little of the yarn left...probably enough to make a beanie...but I want my hat back. Wah.

Can't recommend the yarn highly enough. It is soft, squishy, and absolutely a joy to work with. Mine looked mostly brownish green, but it had such beautiful highlights of pink, blue, yellow and other colors. Sigh. Gotta find that hat...
